iTunes Ping

Incase your unaware Apple launched a new social music service yesterday, that is built into the new iTunes 10, called Ping. It’s goal is to allow you to follow your friends and also favorite artists, which in return should help you discover new music.
I’m not really sure how I feel about the whole thing right now, but it’s definitely worth a shot. The big plus is the huge iTunes user base that Apple already has. Also a down side is, if you don’t buy music from iTunes, I don’t think its going to show up in your profile. So its not a true representation of your music library.
If you install iTunes 10 and setup an account follow me, here is the link to my profile.

I’ll follow you back.
Let me know about your experience with Ping.

Upcoming Concerts

I’ve had this conversation so many times …

My Friend: What’d you do this weekend?

Me: I went and saw <insert any band or artist here>

My Friend: Dang, I had no idea they were playing close by. You gotta keep me in the loop.

So, this is me keeping everyone in the loop.

I’m going to frequently post some of the concerts I’m pretty pumped about. Most of the time, if I post it here, I’ll be going to it myself. Though please take into consideration, there are A LOT of great show’s that I won’t be listing. I’m only listing the ones I personally will be going too. There are so many bands and artists I’ve seen quite a few times, and really just don’t care to go see them again.

8/12 – Sugarland @ Asheville Civic Center

8/27 – Brad Paisley @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte

8/27 – New Found Glory @ The Handlebar in Greenville (Already have tickets to Brad, or i’d be at this show.)

9/4 – Lady Antebellum @ Harrahs Casino

9/8 – NeedToBreathe @ The Orange Peel (More excited about this show than any other one on this list.)

9/10 – Kings of Leon @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte

9/22 – Jimmy Eat World @ The Orange Peel

10/9 – Charlie Hall @ Smoky Mountain Arts Center in Franklin (Going to UNC/Clemson game or i’d be there)

10/13 – 30 Seconds To Mars @ The Fillmore in Charlotte

10/29-31 – MoogFest 2010 in Asheville (venues TBD)

What show’s have I missed? .. Which ones are you excited about?

Music Monday – 06.28.10

I work at a radio station and I listen to A LOT of music. I also get a chance to listen to quite a few albums way before they come out. So, I’ve decided to start a new weekly blog post, Music Monday.

Each Monday I will highlight typically two albums. The “Tomorrow’s Must Buy” and the “Album Stuck On Repeat.”

I listen to all generas of music so there is no telling what I’ll be posting. Enjoy.

Tomorrow’s Must Buy: Hillsong Live – A Beautiful Exchange
I love Hillsong Church. I love everything about it. They continually set the bar and then raise it for what worship music in todays church should look like. When they release a new album that means two things -

A) You must buy it.
B) You have to learn every song on the album.

I’m not kidding. These will be the songs you’ll be singing in church, for years to come. This album is completely awesome. The writing is real and message is powerful. I don’t want to say too much about this one, you need to just listen to it for yourself.

Side note, Hillsong Live is going on tour. They are making a stop in Spartanburg, SC on July 25th. Tickets are only $25. You should really make plans to be there. It’s going to be an incredible night of worship. You can get a complete tour listing and the link to purchase tickets here.

Album Stuck On Repeat: Casey Darnell – EP

If you’re asking who is Casey Darnell, he’s a worship leader for North Point Community Church in Atlanta.

I can’t say enough about this album. It’s only 6 songs, but thats enough to completely rock your world. The first track Anthem is ridiculous. It’s basically a prayer for the Anthem of our generation, for God to wake us up so every heart praises the name of Jesus. Track 2 called Brilliant Light will melt your face off, they played this one at Elevation Church in Charlotte this past weekend. You can’t go wrong buying this album. It’s ONLY $5.49 on iTunes. Thats stupid cheap for 6 good songs. Half the albums out there don’t even have 6 good songs on them and your dropping $10. One declaimer though, you’re probably going to get caught singing these songs at a red light with the windows down. It’s ok if you do. Just look over and smile at the person next to you.
